“Your Key To Quiet Enjoyment – Understanding the Virginia Residential Landlord and Tenant Act (VRLTA)” is a workshop conceived and promoted by Virginia Housing and Community Development Corporation and its community service partner, The Renting Center, LLC. The workshop provides renters an understanding of the steps to locating and renting an apartment or house, rental agreements, inspecting the premises (what to look for), how to address property maintenance and repair issues, local eviction procedures, required notices, application fees, and security deposits. It also provides invaluable insight and understanding of common landlord and tenant issues, such as lack of maintenance, non-payment of rent, and poor safety and health conditions, and how to properly resolve them.

The workshop is targeted primarily at renters in Hampton Roads' low-income, disadvantaged communities. However, VHCDC is expanding its offering by inviting landlords, property managers, and residential investors to participate in the training. VHCDC firmly believes educating both landlords and tenants on their rights and obligations under the VRLTA will stem the tide of homelessness, neighborhood blight, and decaying quality of life in some Hampton Roads communities, while helping landlords improve retention and improve tenant (customer) relations and satisfaction.

“Your Key To Quiet Enjoyment – Understanding the Virginia Residential Landlord and Tenant Act” will be presented: November 8th at the Seatack Community Recreation Center, 141 S. Birdneck Road, Virginia Beach and November 15th at the Hampton Public Library, 4207 Victoria Boulevard. The workshop begins at 6:30pm.
